Who we are

About Mike and Shannon:

Mike has worked in the Homelessness sector since 2005 in a range of statutory and third sector roles, including senior management. He was a sub-regional lead for the Government’s No Second Night Out initiative and co-founded JustUs in 2014 after whistleblowing on unlawful practices in a local council. He also worked in a statutory substance misuse service rated outstanding by CQC for 2 years.

Mike has delivered training on Homelessness Law to many hundreds of people since 2014 and has created Youtube content and free events watched by thousands. Mike has a Practice Certificate in Data Protection.

Shannon is a member of the Government Department of Levelling Up, Housing and Communities’ (DLUHC) Lived Experience Influencing National Policy Panel as part of the current National Rough Sleeper Strategy. She is also a member of the Welfare Change Lived Experience Group which delivers training to the Department of Work and Pensions and the Expert Link’s National Advisory Panel which responds to consultations on Government policy. She was a Committee Lay Member on NICE’s Integrated Health and Social Care for People Experiencing Homelessness Guidance which was published in March 2022.

Before entering the Homelessness Sector, Shannon worked within schools in SEN departments, Behavioural classes, Pastoral Care and Safeguarding, dealing with a range of ages and barriers children face.

Both Mike and Shannon enjoy ‘big picture’ thinking and delivering training to other professionals and supporting them to put this knowledge into practice. They love the positive power that Homelessness Law gives front line workers and the addition housing options it opens up for those affected by homelessness.
